The book of Acts focuses primarily on the acts of two Apostles Peter and Paul. It bridges the story of the New Testament from the time of Jesus to the time of the churches who were later the addressees of the epistles.

Paul’s authorship of the letter has never been seriously questioned. It is reasonable to date the letter around 61 (10 years after the visit to Philippi recorded in Acts 16). There are three main opinions about the place the letter was written from, but it is likely that Paul wrote from Rome during the two year pre-trial confinement recorded in Acts 28:30. Paul was probably chained to a Roman guard. He may have dictated the letter to a third party. Primarily, Paul’s purpose in writing was to thank the Philippians for their financial support.
