"I do not concern myself with great matters, or things too wonderful for me." Psalm 131:2

At Christmas time we celebrate the birth of the Christ Child into the world, there is also a birth of the Christ into our soul. After we are born again Jesus' spirit lives within us.  The New Life in Christ is a life of learning to lean. We work spiritually to quit relying our own works. We never quit working. We work at relying on the sufficiency of God’s works. We come to the place where we see our own works can never make us "right" and yet desiring to be made right with God we confess that Jesus Christ has done for us what we could not do for ourselves. Confessing is an ongoing cleansing process throughout our walk with the Lord and ultimately, through this process we are brought to a place where we surrender to God’s will.

The sin of pride, is a most subtle and powerful enemy of this process. Pride must be overcome before we can fully surrender.

Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii, and given to poor people? John 12:5

Here, we have, in the house of Simon the leper, the pious sounding words of a diabolical man.  This took place in Bethany,  in the town where Lazarus lived and died and lived again. The Passover was 6 days away. The time to slay the lamb was coming.

Judas had already developed allegiances with the pious sounding men of Jerusalem. Men who loved to pray long prayers in public, men whose loyalties were to earthly domains, men who plotted the murder of the righteous on Holy days, men who considered their murderous deeds to be service unto God.

We Are What We Read

By Brother David Dietrich, Lyken Pennsylvania

We are familiar with the saying that we are what we eat. The connotation is that what we take in and digest has a direct effect on the condition of our person. A sound diet is the key to maintaining a healthy physical condition.

The same can be said of our spiritual person. What we take in or fail to take in effects our inner man. I fear that for many of God’s children they suffer from an unhealthy diet of reading material that does little to nothing to feed the inner man. A far greater number I fear, suffer in a condition of deprivation from not reading at all.

Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of The world turned upside downGalilee, and his brother Philip was tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene, We in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.
Luke 3:1-2
Thanks to Luke's Gospel we have almost an exact date for the events in the Gospels. He nails it all down here with "the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius."  Everyone knows that is 29 AD. Tiberius was the second emperor of the mighty Roman Empire. He is a very important person in the history of the world and much is known about him.

But God did not communicate with the mighty emperor.
